An internet pervert who turned up to meet a 13-year-old girl he had chatted to online found himself confronted by Dark Justice

Unemployed Steven McCarthy believed he had been talking to an underage schoolgirl on Facebook and arranged to meet her at Alnwick bus station in Northumberland – after saying her tender years would not put him off having sex.

Newcastle Crown Court heard when the 46-year-old arrived he was confronted by members of Dark Justice, an anonymous organisation which exposes men looking for sex with young girls.

The organisation had notified Northumbria Police about the undercover sting and had officers in tow.

McCarthy, of Upper Howick Street, Alnwick, was arrested and pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.

Prosecutor Lee Fish told the court McCarthy had sent a friend request to a Facebook profile of a 13-year-old and engaged her in chat.

When asked what he wanted, McCarthy posted “Sex, if you want.”

Mr Fish added: “At that point, the girl said ‘Does my age not put you off, being 13?’.

“His response was ‘Not at all, babe’.

“The prosecution case is that it could not have been clearer, the defendant knew he was speaking to someone who was supposed to be a 13-year-old girl.”

The court heard McCarthy repeated that the girl’s age did not put him off when they arranged to meet for a drink and he agreed there would be “kissing and stuff”.

On August 13 McCarthy turned up at the bus station carrying cans of lager.

He told police the alcohol was for him and insisted his plan was for the girl to go in his bed while he slept on the sofa.

He admitted he may have kissed the girl.

Judge Robert Adams told McCarthy: “Of course there was no child, but you believed at the time you were communicating with a 13-year-old.

“It was made very clear to you the person you thought you were communicating with was 13.

“You were even asked whether the age of the person put you off and you said ‘not at all’.”

Judge Adams said “it is not known what would have happened” if there had been an actual girl at the meeting.

McCarthy was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with rehabilitation and group work requirements.

He must sign the sex offenders’ register and abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.

Judge Adams said the intensive requirements of the orders, aimed at dealing with his “warped” desires, would better serve the public than a prison sentence would.

Richard Bloomfield, defending, said McCarthy, who has never been in trouble before, is not a sexual predator and represents a more “pathetic” character.

Paedophile who thought he was meeting 13-year-old girl for sex tried to smash his phone and ‘fought like a pitbull’ when he was confronted by Dark Justice

A paedophile caught out by Dark Justice ‘bent his phone like a banana’ to destroy evidence and fought ‘like a pitbull’ when he was confronted in the street, one of the campaigners said.
Richard Hewitt, 40, drove 200 miles from Cheshire to Newcastle thinking he was going to meet a 13-year-old girl after he made contact on a teen chat room.
He had asked the girl called ‘Jessie’ for naked selfies and sent her Whatsapp messages asking for sex, telling her ‘I will be your first’.

Hewitt, who has been subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) since 2007, did not realise the profile was a fake, set up by Dark Justice.

The group has been running for two years this month and has led to 64 people being arrested.

When Hewitt arrived in Newcastle in August, the group blocked in his car to stop him leaving.

The campaigners said he ‘absolutely flipped’ when they stopped him and tried to smash his phone to destroy evidence.

One of the campaigners suffered a bite injury to the arm and the other a suspected dislocated thumb.

They said: ‘He looks like a chihuahua, but he fought like a pitbull.’

Hewitt, who has 26 offences on his record, admitted attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and breaching his SOPO.

Judge Robert Adams jailed him for two years, saying Hewitt had a ‘bad record for sexual offending’.

The judge told him: ‘You arranged to meet her in Newcastle, you drove to Newcastle, you told her it would be OK, you would be her first.

‘When you got here you sent a picture of yourself driving as you approached.

‘Your vehicle was trapped by members of Dark Justice to stop you from driving away.

‘You became agitated and tried to damage your own phone, knowing what might be on it.

‘There is an obvious risk of you committing further offences, as demonstrated by your repeated offending.

‘You have a very bad record for sexual offending generally. The 13-year-old girl in fact did not exist. We do not know what precisely you would have done.’

Hewitt, from Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port, appeared in court via a prison videolink.

During the sentencing, he mumbled ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘I need help’ until the judge told him to stop interrupting.

Outside court, Dark Justice activist ‘Scott’ said he and his counterpart ‘Callum’ were injured in a struggle during the consultation, although police did not charge Hewitt with any offence of violence.

He said: ‘We were on a chat room and he popped up and straight away messaging us, saying ‘I would like to meet you’.

‘He travelled up the same day.’

Scott said: ‘He snapped his own phone and bent it like a banana, trying to destroy the evidence.

‘He went crazy, he absolutely flipped out.

‘He looks like a chihuahua, but he fought like a pitbull.

‘He tried to take my phone. I was a bit shocked at the time. I wasn’t scared, more angry.

‘We have been spat on, but never anything like this.

‘This is the 64th arrest and 34th conviction – we will have been going for two years on October 30, and nothing like this has happened before.’

PERV SNARED Sicko confronted by Dark Justice was arrested as he tried to flee to the airport

William Orr, 55, was caught on camera by vigilante group Dark Justice after arranging to meet a 15-year-old boy for sex in Newcastle.

When told he had fallen into a trap he sped off in his car – and was nicked 250 miles away as he fled to Stansted airport in Essex.

Dad of three Orr was given a suspended jail sentence after he admitted attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

Newcastle crown court heard he contacted a teenager called Tom on Gay Chat – but in fact the fake profile had been set up by the vigilante group.

Minutes later Orr, who claimed to be 43, began communicating with the boy on the Kik app and sent him explicit pictures of himself in underwear and performing a sex act.

He tried to persuade the youngster to “send a xxx pic back” even after he said he was only 15.

Orr also revealed he was anxious about being “set up”, asked the boy to prove he was “real” and ordered him to delete their chat and start a new one claiming he was above the age of consent.

Patrizia Doherty said: “He asked to meet up with Tom despite being reminded several times that Tom was only 15-years-old.

“The defendant said to Tom, ‘do you have a big c**k’ and ‘I can make you very happy’.

“There was some grooming behaviour used against the victim and significant disparity in age.

“He said he was 43 knowing full well Tom was 15. He was 54 at the time.”

Orr arranged to meet the boy after midnight in a car park near Newcastle College.

When he was confronted on camera by a man introducing himself as part of Dark Justice, Orr said “Are you f***” and sped off, the court heard.

Dark Justice passed his number plate to Northumbria Police, and colleagues in Essex arrested him hours later as he drove to Stansted.

Ms Doherty said: “He was trying to get away.”

Orr has a previous conviction for outraging public decency after he was caught carrying out a sex act on Seaburn Beach by a group of teenage boys in 2013.

The barrister said: “He has been confused about his sexuality. He thinks he’s not bisexual but rather homosexual at this stage. He’s found therapy extremely helpful.

“He lost his wife leaving him with three children to bring up on his own while working.

Judge Penny Moreland told Orr: “Tom told you he was 15. You continued to talk with him and then on the Kik application.

“By 11 o’clock you had suggested to him the two of you meet and by 20 past midnight you had travelled to the car park near Newcastle College where you found there was no such person as Tom.”

Orr was sentenced to six months in prison suspended for two years and ordered to attend a sex offenders rehabilitation programme.

Dark Justice snare Simon Bagley, 42 who groomed ’13-year-old girl’ and told her he wanted to take her virginity

Simon Bagley believed he had been chatting to a young girl named Charlotte on the social networking website Hi5.

But when the 42-year-old went to meet her in Newcastle, he was instead confronted by paedophile hunters Dark Justice, who had been operating the account.

Bagley had contacted one of the group’s decoy accounts and told the fictitious girl that her age did not matter.

He also told her that he wanted to take her virginity regardless, before asking if she had ‘nice boobs’ and telling her to send him a picture of her dressed in school uniform.

Prosecutor Christoper Rose told the court how Bagley was made aware immediately of the girl’s age, but persisted in pursuing her.

He said: ‘He said that her age was not a problem. The defendant asked her if they could have sex.

‘He asked for her to let him take her virginity. He asked her to have a shower with him and he was complimentary to her, asking her for pictures.

‘When asked by police, he said that he only went there to warn Charlotte about the dangers of meeting up with strangers – he knew that he has been stood up.’

Bagley of Hendon, Sunderland, admitted attempting to meet a child under the age of 16.

Tony Hawks, defending, told the court: ‘He is pathetic and vulnerable.

‘It was an attempt to meet a girl under the age of 16. He was working but had not for a number of years – he has now worked up a debt of £4,000.’

Judge Paul Sloan QC sentenced Bagley to 12 months in prison suspended for two years and ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.

He also imposed a 60 day rehabilitation order.

Judge Sloan told Bagley: ‘You asked her inappropriate questions like if she had nice boobs.

‘You wanted pictures of her in her school uniform. You went to meet the girl at Times Square and were shocked when you were confronted by members of Dark Justice.

‘You then told police that you were only there to teach Charlotte about dangers, something I simply don’t accept.

‘I can see that your parents have come out to support you, and they have continued to support you throughout.

‘If this was more than an attempt then you would be given an immediate custodial sentence.’

Moment paedophile who groomed ’13-year-old girl’ in online chatroom offering to pay her for kisses and cuddles was caught by Dark Justice.

A paedophile who offered to pay a 13-year-old schoolgirl for kissess and cuddles was snared by Dark Justice vigilantes.

Martyn Ager, 32, from Colchester in Essex, was caught by the paedophile hunters after arranging to meet someone he thought was a schoolgirl, around 300 miles away in Newcastle.

The group confronted him at their meeting place and photographed and filmed him before police officers arrived.

Ager was arrested and later jailed for 12 months, suspended for two years, with a rehabilitation requirement of 30 days and 100 hours of community service, at Newcastle Crown Court.38eaa80400000578-3813785-image-m-4_1475155188725

He was also given a month’s curfew between 7am and 7pm, made to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

The court heard officers arrived at the scene within minutes of Ager arriving and recovered items over night essentials, playstation games and two bottles of wine.

At one point he told his victim: ‘If you don’t tell me what you want, I won’t bring anything at all.’

Prosecutor Michael Bunch told the Newcastle Crown Court: ‘The defendant talked about making payment to the girl for kisses and cuddles.

‘The conversation between the two progressed quickly.

‘He suggested that he drive to the north east, though it was not until the following morning that he arrived at the meeting point.’

Mr Bunch told how the inclusion of alcohol in his bag could be considered as a gift or a bribe, an aggravating factor.

Vic Laffey, defending said: ‘This is a man with low self esteem who has never been in trouble with police over the course of his life and has made a terrible error.

‘He has lost his job and his friends. His friends have distanced themselves from him after hearing about his crime.’

Judge Caroline Wigin said: ‘The circumstances of your offending, Mr Ager, are that you got in touch with a girl that you believed to be 13.

‘You proposed offering her money for kisses and cuddles and you proposed that you would put your hands between her legs.’

She added: ‘Although your plea was early, it was not at the earliest opportunity.’

Father, 50, who arranged to meet a ’13-year-old girl’ in order to take her virginity is caught by Dark Justice

A father who arranged to meet a 13-year-old girl and take her virginity has been jailed after he was snared by online paedophile hunters.

Mark Thornton, 50, from Darlington, chatted to underage girls across two different profiles set up by group, Dark Justice.

The group create decoy accounts to track down men who are seeking sexual activity with underage girls.

Among the sick messages sent by Thornton were requests for risque pictures and he also asked one girl if she was ‘excited’ about losing her virginity with him.

He admitted two charges of attempting to incite a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity, one charge of attempting to meet a child under 16 and one charge of attempting to meet a child under the age of 16 for the purpose of sexual activity, at Teeside Crown Court.

Thornton was sentenced two years in prison and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for ten years.

During the trial, prosecutor Paul Abrahams said that Thornton began chatting to a social media profile with the name Jessie Amy Thompson in July of this year and soon turned the conversation sexual.

Mr Abrahams said: ‘She said she was 13-years-of-age. That was made quite clear in the conversation.

‘He used what we would call in global terms, grooming. He was asking her to commit penetrative sexual acts.’

Thornton used explicit language and asked her to meet up but no such meeting materialised.

Later the same month, Thornton struck up a conversation with a profile under the name Toon Lass on the social media site Kik and was again told her age.

Mr Abrahams added: ‘She indicated immediately that she was 13 and called Amy.

‘He told her he had previously had sex with a 15-year-old but she would have been the youngest.

‘He exchanged pictures of his penis and asked for pictures of her but she said she had none.’

‘Thornton then asked: ‘Are you looking forward to losing your virginity babe?’

The following day, Thornton arrived at an Asda car park in Darlington to meet the girl and was caught on camera by Dark Justice.

He was later arrested by police.

Christopher Baker, defending, said: ‘This defendant has failed to give a true explanation to why he went about this.

‘But the reality is that these offences occurred when things in his life were going badly with his partner and his 26-year-old son who has various difficulties.

‘That is some explanation for this kind of behaviour.

‘But he accepts that people do this sort of thing because they have a sexual interest in children.

‘He has lost his partner, the majority of his friends and his good name.

‘Although this defendant was oblivious to this, there was no actual risk of harm to any child.’

Thornton was visibly shaken in the dock as Recorder Richard Wright QC handed him a prison sentence and told him his behaviour was ‘deeply concerning’.

Mr Recorder Wright told Thornton: ‘It is clear to me that you have little to no insight into your offending so you pose a risk to children.

‘You have a sexual interest in children and this is deeply concerning.

‘In fact no children were exposed to your behaviour but you did not know that so I am sentencing you essentially on what was in your mind and what you would have done had you been able to get your hands on a child.

‘You chose to offend in this way. Losing your partner, friends and family is entirely your own fault.’

Dark Justice paedophile hunters snared a pervert after posing as a 13-year-old girl.

Ian Skittlethorpe used WhatsApp messages to urge a girl – who was actually a fake profile set up by vigilante group Dark Justice – to send naked photos.

But after he said he had access to two children, the secret group tipped off police and he was arrested. Shamed Skittlethorpe, 58, of Howe Road, Gosport, avoided jail after his perverted crimes were detailed at Portsmouth Crown Court. In messages he sent, Skittlethorpe boasts about travelling to abuse children across the globe. In court these were described as ‘fantasies’. Tom Wright, prosecuting, said the vigilante group, which was named in court, used fake accounts to catch people.

“He expressed to her his wish to have sex with her, he talks about how it was a long time he had taken the virginity of a 13-year-old girl”
Prosecutor Tom Wright

Mr Wright said: ‘False accounts have been set up which give all the appearance of being the social media of young girls between the ages of 11 and 15. There was a profile set up, a young girl called Amy, featuring photographs. ‘In all the contact she was at pains to say she was 13 and living alone in Newcastle. ‘Ian Skittlethorpe was lured into a very sexualised contact with her over a period of days. ‘In very short terms, he was discussing with Amy very sexual matters.

‘He expressed to her his wish to have sex with her, he talks about how it was a long time he had taken the virginity of a 13-year-old girl.

‘He talked about having consensual intercourse with other young people.’ The messages also show Skittlethorpe talking about sex with a dog.

Skittlethorpe asked for a photo of ‘Amy’ undressed and asked her to take her top off. Mr Wright added: ‘It seems the evidence that (the vigilante) was getting might have been more extensive but on August 12 Mr Skittlethorpe in the course of conversation indicated (he would have access to two young girls).’

Skittlethorpe was able to delete WhatsApp on his phone but police found 13 indecent images. He admitted 10 counts of possessing indecent images, one count of possession of extreme pornography and one of distributing one indecent image.

The indecent images included categories C, B and A, the worst kind. Skittlethorpe admitted two counts of attempting to cause a child to engage in sexual activity.

Recorder Anne Arnold said the case was ‘troubling’ and handed him an 80-week prison term suspended for two years.

He must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and a sexual harm prevention order means he must not contact children or for 10 years use internet devices without making them available to police. He must complete a sex offenders’ group programme and 25 days of rehabilitation.

Daniel Reilly, mitigating, said Skittlethorpe had got rid of all internet devices. He added: ‘He speaks of the shame he feels and deep regret at the way he has behaved.’

Asked to comment about vigilante action, a Hampshire police spokesman said: ‘We understand the desire to protect children, but any member of the public who has information about child sexual abuse, online or otherwise, should get in contact with the police so we can investigate and bring people to justice.’

Smiling pervert caught by Dark Justice walks free from court despite arranging to meet child for sex

Callum Jennings was caught out by  paedophile hunters when he turned up to meet a 13-year-old girl.

Jennings thought he had been chatting online to an underage schoolgirl he met on a dating site but Newcastle Crown Court heard he had been duped by Dark Justice, an organisation set up to track down men who want sex with young girls.

During online conversations with the girl, the 22-year-old, from Newcastle, sent a picture of his penis, a video of himself masturbating and engaged in graphic sexual chat.

The court heard Jennings arranged to meet up with the girl in Newcastle on April 18.

Prosecutor Sue Hirst told the court: “Members of Dark Justice went to the meeting point and saw the defendant.

“They spoke to him and asked him if he considered meeting a 13-year-old and sending the messages he had sent her to be acceptable. He stated they were meeting as friends.”

Jennings told police he had been “stupid”.

He pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following grooming and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.

Recorder Toby Hedworth QC sentenced Jennings to 16 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with rehabilitation requirements.

He must abide by a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and sign the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.

The judge said it was unclear whether Jennings intended to have full sex with the underage girl.

He told Jennings: “You were informed almost immediately that she was only

13. Notwithstanding that, you maintained your interest.

“I find your interest in her, where perhaps was initially wanting company, your interest became sexual almost immediately.

“Because of the good offices of Dark Justice fortunately there never was a real child. This you didn’t know, it was a virtual relationship you were engaging in.”

The judge said Dark Justice carry out “important work” and was convinced Jennings has learned a ” salutory” lesson.

He said he was convinced Jennings, who has never been in trouble before, would not be back in court again.

Brian Hegarty, defending, said Jennings had stated during his messages with the girl that he couldn’t have sex with the girl because of her age and had asked if she had a spare room when they discussed him going to her home.

Mr Hegarty said Jennings had said he was unsure about the meeting and added: “He had grave reservations about what he was doing. He knew he was behaving very foolishly.

The court heard Jennings was “crestfallen” and is sorry for his behavior.

Moment paedophile arrives to take virginity of 13-year-old girl – only to be caught by Dark Justice

A paedophile was caught on camera by a vigilante group when he thought he was meeting a 13-year-old girl for sex.

Douglas Smith thought he was chatting with a schoolgirl through Facebook and encouraged her to meet up so he could take her virginity.

But when the 56-year-old turned up to meet his underage target, he was confronted by members of Dark Justice, who pose as children online to catch sex offenders.

Smith was already on the Sex Offenders Register as a result of an earlier conviction for viewing indecent images when he started chatting to the ‘girl’.

Newcastle Crown Court heard during their five-day conversation in June, he told the girl he loved her, said she was ‘sexy’ and she had a beautiful smile.

Prosecutor Rachael Landin said: ‘In response to some questions in relation to whether matters would hurt he said he penis wasn’t very big.’

Smith, of North Shields, Tyne and Wear, was arrested when he turned up at Central Station in Newcastle to meet the girl but was confronted by Dark Justice, who filmed the meeting.

He pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child after grooming and breach of registration requirements by failing to tell the authorities where he was living.

He was jailed for a year and eight months and ordered to serve an extended licence period after he is freed. He must now sign also the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Judge Jeremy Freedman told him: ‘You clearly intended there should be full sexual intercourse, even though you believed the girl to be a 13-year-old child who had no sexual experience of any sort.

‘The person you in fact communicated with was with an organisation called Dark Justice, who track down people such as you, who attempt to groom children though social networks.

‘It is deeply concerning you have not changed your behaviour in any way, despite being on a sex offenders treatment programme.

‘You have no real insight into the harm our actions could potentially cause.

‘I think you are intent, if left to your own devices, on having sexual relationships with young people, even though you know very well it was wrong to so do and very harmful to potential victims of such offences.’

Smith claimed he was ‘lonely’ when he started the online conversation and had been ‘flattered’.
