Police are appealing for information following the rape of a woman in her home in Ashington

Police were called to an address in the North Seaton area of Ashington at around 1.50am on Wednesday, July 5, following a report of a woman aged in her 20s being raped in her home by an intruder.

The offender is described as around white, age 20-40, around 5’5″-5’7″, of slim build with broad shoulders and was wearing light grey hoodie with the word ‘Henley’ across the front.

DCI Helen Anderson said: “We are making enquiries as part of this extensive investigation. Our house to house enquiries are ongoing, we are conducting searches in the area and continuing with efforts to progress CCTV. It’s vital that we locate the offender and we are now appealing for help from the public to help us find the man responsible for this attack. We are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the North Seaton area in the early hours of Wednesday, July 5 and who saw something suspicious, or someone matching the description, to contact us straightaway.”

“We would also like to reassert that we believe this is not connected to any other incident but would nevertheless encourage the public to remain vigilant. There will be a strong police presence in the area, and we would encourage you to approach our officers with any concerns you may have. I would like to assure residents that extra patrols will continue to be visible in the area to provide reassurance to the community.”
